My good friend Kati is working on getting things together to start her own business so she can stay-at-home with her little boy, something she’s been wanting to do for a while.
Anyway, we’ve been having “Pinterest Parties” for the past 2 months getting new ideas and brainstorming and letting our kids kill each other play. Last weekend I headed over to try a new technique, putting a photo onto wood. Now, I don’t mean Mod Podging it on there and that’s it or even a tissue paper technique, this was with Gel Medium and actually put the photo onto the wood, you remove the paper, it’s crazy.
I didn’t do a tutorial for it but to find the one we used, go here. Basically, you just apply a THICK layer of Gel Medium, print a photo on regular paper that you want to use (I flipped my photo horizontally in Photoshop before I printed because it’ll flip when you put it onto the wood), place the photo (cut it out of the paper) on the gel medium covered wood and let dry (about 5-8 hours). Then, take a wet rag and GENTLY rub away the paper and waalaa, there’s your image, ON the wood! The tutorial stated to use a laser printer and I definitely say that probably would work better but I used ink and it worked just fine, I mean it’s a little rough and scrubbed too hard in some places but overall, it looks great.
I made this one of the hubs to take to work, what do ya think?
